CORY DRUNK DEBUNKED
One longtime rumor that took on life was reports actor Wendell Cory struggled to deliver his lines in the movie because he was soused. Not true, as Ted V. Mikels himself, who was there directing and shooting all scenes. Mikels says in Unmasking the Astro-Zombies
“Most agents in Hollywood seemed to know when I was casting a movie. I always received calls from them. They asked if they could send me actors to interview,” Mikels said. “I was warned about Wendell’s drinking problem, and his wife was always with him on the set. But, he was a prince and he did not drink a drop. He was delightful to work with.”

MORE FROM THE WORLD OF TED V. MIKELS

Film Alchemy: The Independent Cinema of Ted V. Mikels
A book written by Christopher Wayne Curry - American filmmaker Ted V. Mikels holds a unique position as one of the most unconventional directors of exploitation cinema. Famous for his eccentric home life (he once lived with a harem in a castle with secret passageways) and promotional gimmicks (he was known for having nurses and ambulances on hand to assist "scared-to-death" moviegoers), Mikels is now considered a pioneering master of low-budget movie making. This unique work examines each of Mikels' 19 major film or video productions, beginning with his first feature film Strike Me Deadly (1959) and continuing through his latest work-in-progress, Demon Bloodlust. Each entry includes a full list of cast and crew credits, along with a plot synopsis and, frequently, behind-the-scenes anecdotes. Also included are a complete filmography, an overview of Ted V. Mikels memorabilia, and a transcript of the author's personal interview with Mikels.

The Wild World of Ted V. Mikels
DVD - Meet independent grindhouse movie maverick Ted V. Mikels, who is celebrating his 60th anniversary making movies - wowing audiences with his own special brand of guts, gore, violence, and dark humor. From the grisly The Corpse Grinders, the early slasher epic The Astro-Zombies, to the far-out Girl in Gold Boots and countless others, Mikels tells his story for the first time in The Wild World of Ted V. Mikels by award-winning documentarian Kevin Sean Michaels, director of Vampira: The Movie. Ted V. Mikels is a pioneer. In the 1970's, the concept of The Doll Squad was appropriated by television mogul Aaron Spelling for his own Charlie's Angels series (even down to using the character name Sabrina) and more recently inspired Quentin Tarantino with the turtle-necked look for the DiVA girls in Kill Bill. Ted shares stories of the William Castle-esque movie premieres that included nurses and ambulances on hand at the theaters to assist "scared-to-death" moviegoers. Plus, he reveals for the first time details of his private life in the sprawling Sparr Castle in California with a harem of women called the Castle Ladies!
